Stephen ‘doc’ Watson has been a resident of Beaumont, Texas since 1959, graduating from Beaumont High School in 1968. He was president of both middle school and high school student governments, and was a Texas 4A district debate champion. In addition, he was elected YMCA Youth Governor of Texas in 1968 and was selected as one of the ten outstanding young people in Texas that same year. He attended Oral Roberts University, Lamar University, and the University of Texas majoring in history and pre-law.

Professionally, doc has owned and operated several businesses in both San Diego, California and Beaumont, Texas. In addition he worked in the banking industry as a vice president of lending and for a decade worked in the retail industry as a customer relations coordinator and trainer. As a private consultant he worked many years as an advisor and trainer in the areas of team building, conflict management, and customer relations.

Currently, he operates “Certain To Win” and speaks nationwide on the subjects of winning strategies, team building, violence prevention, and community security. Also for years doc has been a leading community advocate for firearm safety and responsible ownership. In addition, for many years doc’s monthly column, “Heat and Humanity” has been published in the Beaumont Business Journal.
His community involvement includes having served for a decade as a mediator and trainer with the Jefferson County Dispute Resolution Center, and he has been selected to serve as both a Jefferson County election judge and ballot board member. He serves his community on the board of Crime Stoppers of Southeast Texas and was recognized as 2019’s “Crime Stopper of the Year” by the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department. He also serves on the board of the Beaumont Convention and Visitors Bureau, He is an alumni member of both the FBI and Beaumont Police Department Citizens Academy programs, and has served his neighbors for many years as president of the Manion Townhouse Association.
Doc has been married to the girl of his dreams for 20 years and has one stepdaughter. His hobbies include classic cars, reading in the subjects of military history, strategy and tactics, and he enjoys spoiling the family’s two Shelties, Little Piper and Big Parker. Doc is a musician who enjoys both singing and playing bass guitar and has performed professionally for over 50 years.
